Stalybridge Street Fest puts on its Dancing Shoes

DANCE features prominently in the next Street Fest on Friday, May 13, which will be focused on

Stalybridge’s role as the new Greater Manchester Town of Culture.

From 6.30pm, the area in front of Holy Trinity Church will be the setting for street dance and a celebration of May by Sarah England School of Dance pupils who will adding a touch of Old England by dancing around a maypole.

Additionally, 2 BAAP – Bubble and Squeak, the Morris Dancing Merchants, will be entertaining the public with larger than life characters who will be roaming around Armentieres Square throughout the evening.

There will also be an interactive street theatre show using puppets and props, and visitors will be able to discover different viewpoints of Stalybridge’s alternative landscape on a modernist walking tour led by artist Steve Marland.

A Tameside Council spokesman said: “We’re very proud that Stalybridge is the new Greater Manchester Town of Culture and that we can reflect this prestigious status through Street Fest which has become a hugely popular event over the last nine months.

“It promises to be a very successful evening combing great food with great entertainment, and all involving a hefty dose of springtime fun.”

Street Fest, which takes place in Armentieres Square on the second Friday of every month (5 to 9pm), is a feelgood gathering that has put Stalybridge firmly on Greater Manchester’s culinary map since it was launched last summer.

Featuring traders supplying food and drink to suit all tastes, and against a background of live entertainment, Street Fest is a unique social event which appeals to all ages by offering a continental-style street market event right in the picturesque and historic heart of Stalybridge.
